Bring the documents identified in your Notice to Appear and any case-specific directions. These may include identification, immigration documents relevant to the proceeding, previously submitted forms or statements, supporting evidence, witness information, and correspondence from the IRB, IRCC, or CBSA. Requirements vary by IRB division and proceeding, so the hearing notice and specific directions should be reviewed carefully.

The procedure depends on the IRB division and type of proceeding. A tribunal member generally manages the hearing, reviews the evidence, and may ask questions. A person appearing may testify, respond to questions, call witnesses where appropriate, and make submissions personally or through an authorized representative. Some matters may be determined through written materials rather than an oral hearing.

Possible next steps depend on the IRB division, type of decision, and individual circumstances. In some cases, an appeal, reconsideration, or another procedure may be available.
